RIP David Liddell

Posted in : Group | January 30, 2010

DAVID LIDDELL, the first Group Leader of 3rd Croydon Scout Group passed away last week. Without David’s valuable work in building the group over 50 years ago, 3rd Croydon wouldn’t be the great group it is today. We offer our condolences to his family.

New Leaders

Posted in : Group | May 14, 2009

Leaders in scouting donate an amazing amount of their time to keep the sections running. It’s a big commitment, but also rewarding for those who take it on. At 3rd Croydon we have a great group of leaders running an exciting programme for our kids, but there’s always room for more people to lighten the load on those already working so hard. We have been fortunate enough to invest not one but THREE new leaders in the last few months, so let’s meet them now :

Eber and Robyn have signed on to help lead the Scout section

New leaders Eber and Robyn salute the Scouts after their investiture

Helen salutes the Cub leaders as she's invested into cubs

Helen salutes the other leaders as she's invested as a leader in the Cub section

Congratulations to all of them, and we welcome them warmly into Third Croydon!

Scouts- CFA Visit

Posted in : Scouts | March 29, 2009

Dear Scouts,
On Friday the 3rd April we will be going on a community visit to the CFA in Bayswater. You are to be dropped off and picked up at the CFA at the normal time, 7.30pm–9.30pm.

Please be on time as these people are also volunteers taking time out of their personal lives to show us what they do.
This group of people have been very busy lately fighting fires around our local areas so I’m sure you will have many questions for the men and women fire fighters.

Melway Ref 64 G3

Corner Bayswater Rd & Mountain Hwy, Bayswater.
In front of the Bayswater Hotel and behind the Bayswater Community Centre.

Anyone wishing to do their Fire Awareness Badge should let me know and have lots of questions on the night.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Yours in scouting,
Robyn Moore

Wildlife Rescue Donation

Posted in : Group | March 5, 2009

3rd Croydon made a donation of supplies to one of the many groups looking after animals injured in the recent bushfires. Thanks to Scout Leader Anthony for organising and delivering fencing supplies to help out.

Injured Kangaroos

They sent us some photos like the ones above, and a note of thanks, below.

Thank you so much for donating to our Wildlife that have been affected by the recent bush fires. It makes a huge difference to see that people care and bother to bring us things that are so useful in helping us with our rescues. I have attached some pictures of some of the wildlife rescued that are still doing well. Once again, many thanks to all of you.

Iceblocking

Posted in : Scouts | February 14, 2009

Careering down the big hill near Lilydale Lake on a block of ice  - that’s iceblocking!

Coming down the hill head first

Coming down the hill head first

A stackhat is essential for iceblocking, as you reach a fairly decent speed by the time you get to the bottom of the hill. It’s also a good idea to put a tea towel or something between you and the ice, to avoid the embarrassment of freezing yourself onto the block!  There’s some more pictures after the jump. Scouts - Jamboree 2011

Posted in : Scouts | February 2, 2009

The jamboree is at the end of the year. Part of the requirements is 10 nights under canvas. If you sleep in a tent at the family camp you’ll earn 3 nights under canvas.

To achieve other requirements organise the menu and purchase the food for your family. We will have a cooking activity on camp.

On Saturday or Sunday there will be a half day hike. You need to carry a day pack with food, drink, personal first aid & wet weather gear. Sturdy shoes and hike socks will be necessary.
Parent/scout activities are planned. These will also count toward badge work plus it’s a chance to show your parents what you can do.

There will still be plenty of free time for games, billy carts, relaxing, etc.
See you there for a good time.

Cheers,

Lea
